No cost ways to save energy...
Saving energy needn't cost a fortune. We've compiled some no cost and low cost ways for you to become more energy efficient.
- Turn off everything not in use; lights, TVs, computers etc.
- Activate the "sleep" feature on computers and office equipment
- Regularly clean light fittings and lamp shades.
- Only put as much water in the kettle as you need (but make sure the heating elements of electric kettles are covered!).
- When cooking, turn down a boiling saucepan and put a lid on to reduce energy use and condensation. Better yet, use a microwave oven.
- Have a bath instead of a shower.
- Set the hot water thermostat to 60 degrees celsius
- Close your curtains at dusk making sure not to cover radiators.
- Close all doors in unused rooms
- Only use washing machines and dishwashers when full.
- Wash clothes at as low a temperature as possible.
- Stop the dishwasher before the drying cycle and open the door to let the dishes air dry and always use the economy button where possible.
- Defrost your refrigerator and freezer at least once every 6 months. Frost Build increases energy consumption.
